How I Make Over $14 Every Month by Writing
Some months it’s $15
Writing about how to write is huge right now. Everyone has a fool proof plan that lets the world quit their jobs and watch passive income start rolling in.
We’re told that people who write online are either complete failures or $10,000/post success stories. But I find myself in a third category.
I’ve enjoyed some success with writing and have collected a respectable amount of followers, but I still work a full time job.
I continue to write because I love writing. I think it’s amazing that my articles actually get read by people. Anyone who spent time writing online ten years ago will confirm that’s a huge deal.
I make anywhere from $10-$100 each month from various articles. I’m a paid and published writer and I think that’s pretty neat.
Don’t get me wrong, I think this shift towards monetization is amazing. It really is a great time to be a writer. And great writing should be paid well.
What I don’t agree with is starting out your career as a writer after reading a post about being able to make thousands of dollars every month.
If money is your inspiration then you will most likely fail. If you succeed, you’ll end up hating writing just as much as that job you desperately want to leave.
If you’re not already writing, chances are, you’re not a writer. I’m not talking about published articles. Do you have a journal? Have you ever written just to write? Do you read books?
Reading is important. Writing is basically, advanced, interactive reading. If you don’t read books, you should start there. If you’ve never written anything, you should write something.
Before I go, I want to say that those articles about making a living as a writer are really great and very inspirational for someone like me. I read them a lot and continuously fine tune my craft. I’ve never found them to be disingenuous or misleading. But if you’re not already writing, you’re missing a prerequisite to pulling passive income. And if you’re not already reading, you’re missing a prerequisite to life.
