I get what you’re saying, and I agree that our unrealistic expectations of comfort drive unhealthy, sometimes destructive behavior, but one of the most destructive things an opiate addict does, almost right away, is forego any comfort whatsoever in order to keep using.

They’ll choose to be homeless, not to eat or drink, live without running water or electricity, and they’ll destroy relationships then try to beg for money from the same people.

Those things are far beyond uncomfortable. So I think this comparison might be a little naive, or at least misunderstood.

I really like the article other than that, though.
