Why I Love Quora

My unceremonious return to answering ridiculous questions

I just spent two hours crafting an answer to a question about what the next promising music genre might be. And I didn’t monetize it when I finished. I was deep in my Quora hole, where I don’t write for money.

Writing answers that are prompted from peoples questions made me realize what I love most about Quora; Someone asked me to write.

I didn’t need to find a topic, spend hours writing and editing, pick a picture that best represents my words, try to come up with the best possible title that will draw attention, then submit my baby to the void in hopes that someone, somewhere will be interested in what I have to say about the topic I chose.

No, I’m responding to a question someone wants to read the answer to. Plus, Quora has superpowers when it comes to SEO which means, my answer will get lots of traffic.

Isn’t that our endgame here? For other people to read our writing and to get something out of it. Money, followers, claps, and up-votes should always come after our love of writing.

Quora is a good companion site to Medium. If you’re not sure what to write about, go to Quora and answer some questions. You’ll be able to stretch your writing muscles and distract your brain which might allow you to unconsciously come up with story…
