Millennial Sun

Blind, subterranean, humans don protective eye gear, fighting against gravity towards the frozen exterior of earth. Shovels and hands work tirelessly through rock and clay until finally breaching cold dead air.
The surface greets them with darkness that supersedes more than just shadows and fear. Hopelessness and doubt also linger in this dark air, threatening panicked alarm.
Sky and earth violently break apart revealing beams of light cascading towards darkness. Impossible, burning, brilliance carries out complex assaults upon the humans. They cast gazes downward and fall to their knees. Uncontrollable sobbing mixed with unhinged wailing adds madness to increasingly, unstable, chaos, while rays of sunlight become so disruptive, air itself nearly catches fire.
Clouds in the northern sky appear to bleed, before being violently yanked back to the sun’s mighty dawning. Earth and sky stutter and cause dissonance in the heat of the horizon. Sunlight swells to massive proportions then vanishes so quickly, the humans are sick with vertigo.
Darkness reclaims desolateness; air resumes brisk breezes. The humans are fast to retrace their path back to the bowels of the earth, where they will tell stories of unparalleled wonder conquering insidious evil, and where they will wait; patiently wait for another thousand years to glimpse their mighty millennial sun once more.
