I have found that the site isn’t as intuitive as I thought. You don’t have to use all the drop down menus. So you don’t have to pick a country or a year. But those options are there if you want to really pin point areas of the country.
I usually select something like Atmospheric — Black — Metal — and then try different countries. France is a good place to start. There are lots of sub-genres on there but some of them don’t return very good results. I don’t work on this as much as I used to (or should) but I do still use it.
